Bongomann returns to Darker Than Wax with his third solo offering – the deep, dreamy, and cosmic sound of Lounge Zero. Since releasing his debut EP Smiles with the label in 2020, the artist has since released tracks with labels such as FuFu and Fauve Records, as well as dropping Wake Up/Kick On – an hour long live recording cut to cassette with Botanic Records. One to watch in the Singapore scene and a close friend of the label, Bongomann has begun a deep dive into the realm of live performance in recent years, which has heavily informed the development of his distinctive style.

At its core, Lounge Zero is a heartfelt ode to the chillout sesh, incorporating elements of ambient and downtempo to create a cohesive sonic palette and a finely curated listening journey. ‘Enter’ kicks things off with a cerebral and restrained hardware jam, patiently taking its time to explore all aspects of its aural landscape. Standout cuts ‘Settle’ and ‘Float’ welcome the listener firmly into the lounge, setting the vibe with percussive, atmospheric soundscapes. ‘Pause’ drives forward with a heady, almost trip-hop infused house beat, while ‘Rise (Ambient Mix)’ provides a reflective, beatless interlude. Breaking the mould of the EP’s downtempo theme, ‘Zoof’ closes out the release with ravey, psychedelic-infused euphoria.
